8 Steps To College Success
Attend all classes.
One of the best ways to be successful in college is to attend all classes.
Although you will be tested on material from the course text, most of the test questions will come from lectures.
Become an Active Learner.
Unlike high school, in college, you can’t learn all of the material just reading over it a couple of times. You need to write and recite the information to get it into long-term memory.
Participate in Class.
If you feel a bit uncomfortable participating in class, set a goal to either ask or answer one question during each class.
Get to Know Your Lecturers.
Take a few minutes and stop to talk with your lecturer before or after class or during office hours.
Form Study Groups with Friends.
Study Groups of about 3-4 people are known to be very effective.
However, make sure that you include friends who are serious about doing well in their studies, because only then they will contribute.
Stay Up to Date with Your Work.
Many new college students have difficulty keeping up with all of the reading that’s assigned in class.
If you get behind in your reading, you may never have time to catch up. The workload in college just increases as the semester progresses.
Never procrastinate!
Be Receptive to Change.
If the strategies that you used in high school aren’t working, ask you lecturer or tutor for suggestions for different ways to learn.
Even though the strategies that they suggest may not seem like they’ll work, you must be willing to give them a chance.
If you don’t make changes in the way you take notes, read your texts or prepare for exams, for example, you won’t see changes in your performance.
Work Hard This Semester.
Forget about doing all your assignments in the evening. If you’re taking fifteen credits this semester, you’ll need a minimum of thirty hours (two hours outside of class for every hour in class) to do your work.
If you want high grades, if you work slowly or if you’re taking difficult courses, you’ll need more time to do your work well.
Goal Setting
• Goals are things that we hope to achieve in our future, things we aim for as we pursue a certain course of action.
• By setting goals, it helps us to do work, attend class, study for exams and focus on something that we want.
• It is a process for thinking about your ideal future and motivating yourself to turn this vision of the future into reality.
The Characteristic of Goals
3 Keys to Success
1. Write down Your Goals
The first thing you do in the morning will determine what your day is going to be like. Program your mind to be in a powerful state from the moment upon waking, and you are guaranteed to have a productive and great day.
How you can do this is by writing your goals down, every morning. Then, once you’ve done that, circle the most important goal, the goal that in the long-term will have the most impact on your life.
Now ask yourself this question: “What actions can I make today that will change everything and take me closer to this goal?”
2. Create a Powerful Belief System
When people ask you about your goals in life, don’t be afraid to say it out loud. If you have high goals, they might laugh and look at you funny. But if you’re insecure about your goals, you will make insecure decisions that will lead you nowhere.
Be determined and believe in yourself. People will respect you for having the guts for going after what you truly desire.
The first step to living and achieving your dream is to believe it and imagine it. When you believe in your mind that you’ve already achieved your goals, you will develop a sense of certainty. That certainty will lead to action steps, when you know what the outcome is going to be it’s much easier to pick out the actions that are necessary to get there.
3. Invest in Yourself
Some things you can do today to invest in yourself are:
- Start reading books. Everyone buys books, but very few actually reads them cover to cover.
- Stop reading books and start studying them. Few read the books they buy, but even fewer remembers what they read. Stop reading books and start studying books.
- Study at least one hour a day. “One hour per day of study will put you at the top of your field within three years. Within five years you’ll be a national authority. In seven years, you can be one of the best people in the world at what you do.” – Brian Tracy
- Take notes. Never leave home without a pen and a piece of
paper. The best ideas often comes in the least appropriate times, write
them down. Don’t trust your mind to remember them—it won’t. Writing it
down right away will also allow your mind to store and come up with more
ideas.
Long-Term And Short-Term Goals
Long-term goals is the objective of the goals that you set end of the year for yourself for four or five years from now,or even for a lifetime.
Short-term goals we can set for an hour from now, end of day or semester.

Memory Learning & Improving Concentration
THE ABILITY TO DO SOMETHING WELL .
WHY HUMAN ARE MORE BRILLIANT THAN OTHER LIVING THINGS ??
♥♥ Human are the best creation and we are given intteligence .
♥♥ Our brains is three times big than gorilla’s brain .
MEN VS WOMEN BRAIN
Human relationships.
Women tend to communicate more
effectively than men, focusing on how to create a solution that works
for the group, talking through issues, and utilizes non-verbal cues such
as tone, emotion, and empathy whereas men tend to be more
task-oriented, less talkative, and more isolated. These differences
explain why men and women sometimes have difficulty communicating and
why men-to-men friendships look different from friendships among women.
Left brain vs. both hemispheres.
Men tend to process better in the
left hemisphere of the brain while women tend to process equally well
between the two hemispheres. This difference explains why men are
generally stronger with left-brain activities and approach
problem-solving from a task-oriented perspective while women typically
solve problems more creatively and are more aware of feelings while
communicating.
Emotions.
Women typically have a larger deep
limbic system than men, which allows them to be more in touch with their
feelings and better able to express them, which promotes bonding with
others. Because of this ability to connect, more women serve as
caregivers for children. The down side to this larger deep limbic system
is that it also opens women up to depression, especially during times
of hormonal shifts such as after childbirth or during a woman’s
menstrual cycle.
Brain size.
Typically, men’s brains are 11-12%
bigger than women’s brains. This size difference has absolutely nothing
to do with intelligence, but is explained by the difference in physical
size between men and women. Men need more neurons to control their
greater muscle mass and larger body size, thus generally have a larger
brain.

WHAT IS MEMORY?
MEMORY IS THE ABILITY TO SAVE AND REMAIN THE INFORMATION AND EXPERIENCE .
3 TYPES OF MEMORY
- SENSORY MEMORY – numerous incoming information from 5 senses will be stored in sensory memory for an instant. When you pay attention to the stimuli it will go to the short-term memory, but if you not pay attention it would not be last long and may lost .
- SHORT-TERM MEMORY – our short term memory have only limited storage. The information must be repeated in order to get information to long-term memory .
- LONG-TERM MEMORY – our long term memory is unlimited and have large storage. If the information is not being used for long time. The information will be lost.
